Why is SettleStop PolyRenewal™ Better Than Mudjacking?

Mudjacking is one of the oldest concrete lifting methods in the industry, but just because it’s a classic method doesn’t mean it’s the best. There are many problems that can arise from lifting a slab with the cement slurry used in mudjacking, but luckily, SettleStop PolyRenewal™ eliminates all those issues. To start, SettleStop PolyRenewal™ is simply a much faster and convenient procedure. The curing time is shorter (15-30 minutes as opposed to the 24-48 hours in mudjacking), and the equipment used is smaller, allowing contractors to work in smaller spaces. The holes that need to be drilled into the slab are smaller, meaning that there’s minimal disturbance to the weakened concrete slab.

Another difference between mudjacking and SettleStop PolyRenewal™ is the way the materials interact with the soil. The material used for SettleStop PolyRenewal™ is a closed-cell polyurethane that is incredibly firm and capable of supporting a lot of weight. Despite its density, it’s lightweight enough that it won’t further displace the soil underneath the slab, unlike the rough, heavy cement used for mudjacking. Because it’s a waterproof material, it will not washout or erode and it will not become vulnerable when subjected to the freeze-thaw cycle. Its impermeable characteristics will also prevent water from reaching the soil and washing it away or triggering a shrink-swell cycle.

Concrete slabs sink because they can no longer rely on a stable layer of soil to hold them up. If you eliminate all the factors that cause soil erosion in the first place (washout, shrink-swell, freeze-thaw), then you can ensure that the slabs will have a secure foundation. While mudjacking can be used to lift concrete, it cannot future proof a slab to make sure it doesn’t settle again. This isn’t the case with SettleStop PolyRenewal™. If you want more than just a quick fix and you want to guarantee the settling problem is solved once and for all, then you’ll want to invest in SettleStop PolyRenewal™ instead of mudjacking.
