What is the Difference Between an Interior and Exterior Drainage System?
When researching the various repair options that can waterproof your basement or crawl space, you may come across two distinct drainage systems: an interior and an exterior drainage system. Both systems can waterproof your basement or crawl space with ease, but there are a few key differences between them.
As its name implies, an interior drainage system will be installed along the inner perimeter of your basement or crawl space and work to collect the water that tries to gather in these spaces. Where an interior drainage system will direct this water to a sump pump that will later drain that water away from your home, an exterior drainage system will deposit water out onto your lawn instead. This system will also largely be installed around the exterior perimeter of your home. Of course, this requires that you have a large enough lawn for this sort of watering, so it may not be an option for your home. Additionally, exterior drainage systems tend to be more expensive to install as a whole, so you might benefit more from an interior drainage system. Innovative Basement Authority only offers our Sioux Falls’ customers the interior drainage option.
There are plenty of benefits to an interior drainage system. The first is that you will not see this system much at all. The only part you will be able to notice is the wall flange that connects to the wall and floor joints of the basement. The water collected by the system is transferred to the sump pump, which will activate once enough water has entered its system. It has a complex alarm system that will sound off when it is turned on and when it is low on battery.
