Can I Lift and Repair Concrete Alone?

When it comes to concrete lifting and repair, we recommend that you seek professional help rather than trying to go it alone. While we understand that DIY can be a useful skill, we always tell our clients that DIY should end where structural repairs begin for safety reasons.

The Lifting and Resurfacing Process

The problem with trying to undertake DIY processes alone is that the process is very complex and often requires specialist tools and products, as well as heavy excavation and hydraulic equipment. If you do not identify all of the underlying causes of damage, or the co-occurring issues that are involved with the concrete damage the repair process will not be entirely successful.

The process itself must always start with the structural issues and underlying causes. For foundation damage, this may mean installing foundation piers and upgrading the drainage systems around your property. For a sunken driveway, it could mean mudjacking or polyurethane foam injection. Only after the structural issues have been dealt with can the concrete be resurfaced.

DIY Can Go Wrong

One of the main dangers associated with DIY concrete lifting and repair is the possibility of injury as a result of improper use of the heavy equipment required to excavate, lift, and set damaged concrete. If you are trying to undertake foundation damage there is also the very real danger of causing serious and widespread damage to your property’s foundation and wider structure. This can, in turn, cause structural collapses if the damage is serious enough – and that could be lethal.
