The Good Old Days of Basement Waterproofing

The first known cellar drainage attempts date back to the 1800s.  During that time the United States was even more of an agricultural society, where cellars were used to keep food stores cool and fresh. These cellars were not immune from water and moisture problems. During this era, drains tiles were commonly used and this was first noted in the book “Farm Drainage” by the man who invented the French Drain, Henry French.

Eventually advancements in technology inspired structural engineers, chemists and manufacturers to develop new products to better serve the industry. The waterproofing manufacturers created solutions and started certifying contractors. The National Association of Waterproofing and Structural Repair Contractors (now known as the Basement Health Association) was created and also developed a certification program to educate contractors and shape ethics within the industry.

Waterproofing contractors and experts are concerned with how their work in the basement and home impacts the entire home’s environment. Waterproofing contractors are more knowledge of mold, pests, indoor air quality and radon.

The invention of our patented BasementGutter Drainage System (a series of drains which sit directly on the concrete footer of the homes foundation so it cannot become clogged with dirt and debris from under the home).  It also includes holes along the side and a wall flange to collect water from the floor, under the floor and the walls.

Waterproofers and city regulators also learned that water drained out of basement needed to be routed to storm drains instead of the sewers. While some basement waterproofing companies choose to continue using the old pipe and gravel method, Innovative Basement Authority uses BasementGutter technology.

Innovative Basement Authority’s mission is to provide our customers with the absolute best basement waterproofing solution and customer experience.

From Henry French’s cellar drainage  tile, to clay pipes, to PVC;  BasementGutter is the greatest representation of the basement waterproofing industry and where it is headed — towards redefining our industry.
